GUARD YOUR PIN NUMBER ....GUARD YOUR PIN
NUMBER... GUARD YOUR PIN NUMBER...
I
can't emphasize this enough. Whenever I use an ATM I cover the
whole pad with my hand and punch in my PIN. Always look over your
shoulder to see if anyone is looking for your PIN number. This
is called shoulder surfing, in most cases shoulder surfers have
put a device on Bank ATM Machines so it captures your card. These
thieves see you having a problem and offer to help. They tell
you to enter your PIN several times and believe it or not people
do it in plain view of the thief, you walk away thinking the Bank
has captured your card. When you are out of site the thief has
a way to take your card out of the altered slot, he now has your
PIN and he cleans out your account.
GUARD YOUR PIN NUMBER ....GUARD YOUR PIN
NUMBER... GUARD YOUR PIN NUMBER...
Always
use Bank ATM Machines in a bank. Do not use the ATMs located in
stores and Malls, they are not regulated and are easily tampered
with. Anyone can purchase or lease one of these machines and capture
your ATM Card number and PIN number and empty out your account.
Until new regulation is enacted I suggest you stay away from these
private ATM machines. Recently several major banks in NYC, Florida
and California lost millions of dollars from private ATM machines
that were purchased by a Foreign Criminal Enterprise. The ATM's
were altered to capture your information and PIN they then made
ATM cards with the information and the thieves emptied out thousands
of accounts. The thieves even put money in these machines so you
could get cash. "Customer satisfaction was important to them"
.
Be
wary of signs on ATM Machines saying they are out of service and
pointing to another machine to use.
Even
in Bank ATMs identity thieves place little PIN cameras on these
machines to capture your pin number. Also they place devices over
the machines card skimmer to capture your information. Take a
close look at the ATM Machine you are using, if it looks strange,
don't use it.
Always
take someone with you, the more the merrier.
Always
check out the area around the ATM to see if anyone is lurking
around and scoping it out looking for a potential victim. Be wary
of people opening doors, be sure the Welcome Window screen is
showing before you leave the machine.
Try
to use the ATM during the day.
Never
use an ATM where there are unsavory characters hanging around.
Oh
yes, did I mentioned you should Guard Your PIN?
